Wonderful resources ahead!
Autism Parenting Magazine provided me this infographic on the best autism apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices.
I looked through the list and quickly targeted the ones on my phone. Autism Parenting Magazine and Autism Village (which is a great app I wrote about here, to help families find autism friendly places nearby and when on the road).
But I was unaware of a lot of the other apps listed below. So, I went to the Autism Parenting Magazine blog and took a peek. I was blown away!
When Declan was younger, he didn’t notice other people. On the playground he would push past other kids to get where he wanted to go. The FindMe (Autism) app would have been great for him to be aware of other people –
According to the website: In Find Me, the game aims to find the person in the scene and tap on them. As the levels increase, it becomes harder to spot the person as more and more distracting thing (plants, animals, toys) appear in the scene.
When we were helping Declan plan his day when he was younger, or we were trying to prepare his transition out of the house, we LIVED on a “first then” vocabulary/schedule. The FTVS HD – First Then Visual Schedule HD app would have helped us so much during those years!
Description: This app is an excellent teaching tool that allows you to create visual supports for lessons. Features include: first then boards, visual schedules, task analyses, social stories, choice boards, and video models.
Catelyn LOVES Toca Boca – she will do extra chores to get a new Toca Boca app. So I was very happy to see them on the recommended list below, including this one!
Toca Life: City
Description: Toca Life: City provides six locations for children to explore with 35 customizable characters. In this interactive app, children have the option to try new hairstyles and outfits, enjoy diverse foods, go shopping, and even write a play for the local theatre.
Declan used to run away, completely oblivious to danger. Now, he runs from me to test his independence. Either way – I have always been concerned as he does not know his address, phone number, etc. The All About Me Storybook looks like a great app to help him learn this important information!
Description: This app helps children learn important personal information like their name, address, phone number, and parent’s name. It is ideal for young children learning their personal information for the first time and those with developmental delays such as language impairment, ADHD, auditory processing disorders, PDD-NOS, autism, and Down syndrome.
And I was happy to see there were apps for children and adults.
I have only listed information on a handful of these apps. Click on the infographic and you will be taken to the Autism Parenting Magazine blog to learn more about each of them. Check it out!
This list is great, not looked at any of these. Thanks.
I was impressed myself – nice to have them all in one place, too!
