“I don’t want to be in here,” Declan said loudly, shaking his head “no” as he turned around and walked out of the room.
The audience in the room laughed at Declan’s assured statement.
“This does seem a little too spooky,” I said to my husband as we followed Declan out of the room that was about to present all the ghost interactions in our hometown, “Probably good we didn’t see that one.”
And out we headed to stand as a family by a bonfire and eat bits of candy handed out at our local town’s fall festival.
Our family had another first this weekend.
We went out for a fun night of Fall fun!
In years past, my husband and I just didn’t feel these kind of events would end successfully. Events were too crowded. Too loud.  Declan showed little interest and seemed to be more upset than happy..
This year, we sat down and looked at the events that were going on around us.  Then we found something that sounded very Fall, very fun, very enjoyable – We were going to try to go to a local pumpkin carving event. Declan was excited!
We went early to avoid the crowds. The downfall of going to a pumpkin carving event early was that we did not get to see the pumpkins lit up. But we did get to see them and participate in everything else!
We did the haunted walk – and Declan gave his best scared face.
We went on a hayride! Everyone stayed seated and had a great time.
Tried all the fall goodies, like caramel apples.
Declan really attacking his 🙂
Lots of cool pumpkins to see. We all laughed at this one of “Gritty” the new Philadelphia Flyers mascot – because hey – that thing is scary on it’s own!
Picture of the boys. This one makes me smile. I took it five times and this is the best one. And Bobby has mastered the “stand and smile while my eyes glass over until mom can get a good picture.” 🙂
Catelyn was there and having a great time – she just wasn’t into getting her picture taken. So Declan got her fun headband and got a picture.
And of course the boys all wanted their picture taken with the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Champions pumpkin!
It was a great evening. We went out as a family and made some great fall memories for years to come.
And the best part is – I can’t wait to go out and do something like this again!
This is just such a lively post. I’m so pleased the kids so happy. We were the same avoiding any events as they were too crowded or too noisy or scary or too many bright lights. When we did venture out, they often ended early with a quick exit. But occasionally it’s worked and he’s had a great time , couple of rock concerts, a premiership football match. It’s just a wonderful feeling and such a boost of self esteem for him.
Thank you! I agree – so happy when outings work out. I think he will be excited to try again and I am too!
It’s interesting to read about these Halloween events, I’m happy your family had a great time🎃
Thank you!
Aww what brilliant photographs, thanks so much for sharing them 😊
Thank you, Elaine!
Who would ever dream there were so many ways to stimulate the senses. I have long followed the various learning styles, but this too must be part of learning. The face in the sixth photo was priceless.
Thank you!
Congratulations on your first FAMILY fall event! You even snuck in getting Declan to try a new food, unless he has had that type of apple before.
Thank you! You’re right! That is a brand new food! He was so excited to try one – and he liked it! 🙂
Halloween is a swell holiday for kids. Something about the advent of fall and the God-awful amount of candy that makes it so memorable…
That’s true!
