Big day today!
Today I ran the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Philly.
In the weeks leading up to this race, I wasn’t sure I was going to run. Here it is – I hate the Rock N Roll. It’s ALWAYS in September, so humid, EVERY YEAR. I run the thing, giving it my all and end up sweating my pants a different color from when I started. And my effort never matches my finishing time.
But 13 miles was on my training schedule for my next full marathon. What better way to run 13 training miles than the Rock N Roll – and get another massive medal in the end, right? I was already registered – it wasn’t going to cost me anything I didn’t already pay. Heck, if I didn’t run then I would be losing money!
So, I did all the race prep, packed my bag, put the car in drive at 5:45 this morning and said – “Let’s go run another half.”
It was humid, but not too bad. I hit the wall at mile 10, but put my head down and kept moving forward. Came across the finish line and got my massive metal.
Another half – done!
This week, Helen’s Song Lyric Sunday’s theme is glass.
The song I picked for this theme was, “My Body” by Young the Giant.
I love the song, love the passion – it is on my running playlist because hey – what distance runner has ever felt “my body tells me no, but I won’t quit, because I want more…”?
So, my body is not made of glass. I wanted more, so I pushed it again for another half marathon – and I didn’t break.
Stop!
The train is riding
Down to the station where you lived
When we were school kids
Hey!
The rails are caught now
And I am falling down
Fools in a spiral
Round this town of steam
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
Stop
The train is riding
Down to the station where I lived
When I was a cool kid
Hey!
Is it my fault that
The fallen embers burn
Down in a spiral
Round your crown of thieves
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
And it rides out of town
Oh,
It’s my road
It’s my road
It’s my road
It’s my road
It’s my road
It’s my road
And it’s my war, it’s my war,
It’s my war, it’s my war
His eyes are open
His eyes are open
Hey, hey, hey
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
My body tells me no!
But I won’t quit
‘Cuz I want more, ‘cuz I want more
It rides out of town
When I told my husband what the theme was and where I went with it, he said, “You just ran another half. I would pick Raise Your Glass by Pink because you are celebrating!”
So, here’s his contribution as well 😊
Now I am home, cleaned up and about to take Declan to High-5 soccer! Fun afternoon ahead!!
Well done 👍 great job 😊
Thank you!

This is our ‘me’ time.

I’d never heard My Body before and wow! what a pleasant surprise – a really fantastic workout song :O)
Huge congratulations on the half marathon Robyn – great achievement xx
I agree – this song just gives you that push! Thank you so much! 🙂
Glad we got to raise our glass to you yesterday.. I would say we are so proud but this has become common for you.. Love you and love to watch you continue to dominate everything!!!
Thank you!! 🙂
Have to agree with your husband on the song choice. speaks more of celebration! Regardless of a song, congratulations on another accomplishment met!
Yeah, I always go and complicate things and he is so straightforward 🙂 Thanks!!
I love this post so much. I used to run… not sure if my body will let me anymore, but I do miss it. The most I ever ran was five miles, though. I always wanted to get to the half, but I stopped training and then sort of fell apart, physically. 🙂 Congrats on ANOTHER one!! I hadn’t heard of Young The Giant before, but I LOVED this song. I am adding it to my playlist and checking out more. Also, Pink is always a great pick. Thanks so much for playing along!
Thank you! I am glad you liked it!
