Before we leave July I have gotten through a few books and wanted to join WWW Wednesday this week!

The Three W’s for WWW Wednesday are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Right now I am reading All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven.Β  I am only a couple of chapters in but I am enjoying this YA book.Β  It is starting in a very dark place.Β  I am excited to see where the author will take us (like, where are all those bright places?)

What did you recently finish reading?reid_9781524798628_jkt_all_r1.indd

Before this, I read Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.Β  I have seen a lot about this book.Β  Not reviews, really – just that a lot of people are reading it.Β  I liked it.Β  To me it felt I was reading a book about Fleetwood Mac meets Cameron Crows ‘Almost Famous.’Β  A good book about the dynamics and intricacies of life as a band.

Before that I read The Worst Class Trip Ever by Dave Barry.Β  This is my oldest sons summer reading – WHICH I must say – whoever said β€œIf you read, your kids will see you and want to read too”- well, that is not true in this house.Β  I have a book with me almost everywhere I go and NONE of my kids are interested in books.Β  But anyway, I read my son’s book to see what summer reading is like for eighth graders – it was okay.Β  I think he will like it.Β  It is s quick and full of fart jokes.Β  Right up his alley.

Before that I read my daughters summer reading, Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer.Β  I enjoyed this book way more than the fart joke book.Β  I am hopeful that my daughter will enjoy it as well as there is a lot of heart in the characters and plot.

*Spoiler Here* Before that I read The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom.Β  And I truly hated this book.Β  I came to this book right from Orphan Train – and the synopsis was so similar I was so ready to enjoy this story.Β  It was NOTHING like that.Β  We start in an Orphan Train type story and then go down the dark alley of sexual abuse and the after effects for years to come.Β  Just awful.

Last WWW Wednesday I forgot to add the book The Stories In Between by one of our WP writers, River Dixon.Β  I did receive a free advanced copy of this book.Β  I really enjoyed this book which was a collection of spooky short stories that kept me intrigued and surprised.Β  Well written and enjoyable to read.Β  River’s book can be found here.

Also, I have forgotten to mention another book written by another WP writer, Jeff Cann, called Bad Ass My Quest to Become a Back Woods Trail Runner.Β  Although I am not a trail runner, I am a runner and I thoroughly enjoyed Jeff’s book – which was so much more than a book about running.Β  True to Jeff’s style, the book was very introspective, with bits of humor on his quest and journey to become a bad ass back woods trail runner.Β  Jeff’s book can be found here.

UPDATE!Β  Jeff’s book can be downloaded for FREE here!

OrphanTrain[1]

Finally, I read Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.Β  I really enjoyed the two stories of heartache and loss, from two different time periods.Β  How these women found each other, shared their stories and how they could relate to each other even with so many years between them was very enjoyable to read.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I don’t what I am going to read next.Β  I have a pile to sift through to see what feels right.

Til next time!

Thank you, Sam for hosting WWW Wednesday!

  1. What a great selection of books! I’ve also seen so many people read Daisy Jones & The Six but now you’ve said Almost Famous it’s definitely more interesting!

    1. Thank you! Yes, I definitely got an Almost Famous feel from it. If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy it πŸ™‚ Happy reading!

  2. So, River Dixon GAVE you a copy of his book? I had to buy one. What a fiend!

I just finished a book by Victoria Ray (https://raynotbradbury.com/) called “So Absurd it Must be True” (I had to pay for that one, too); and, am in the middle of yet another Jack Reacher novel called “The Enemy”.

I’ve got several books waiting for me on my “staging shelf”. I won’t commit no matter HOW MUCH YOU THREATEN!!!

    1. He did! I volunteered to read it before hand and offered to write a review for him. I really enjoyed it! Hahaha – Same with me. I swear whenever I am deciding on what to read next I lay the contenders out and have some solid thought before making a choice. There was no way I was going to read anything after that Kitchen House book that wasn’t easy breezy.

  3. Your comment on The Worst Class Trip Ever made me spill my coffee! Yup, for kids a good fart joke can be enough πŸ˜‰ My 7-year-old loves being read to, but is not quite enjoying reading herself yet. She can read, but she still finds it too much like hard work πŸ˜‚

    1. Haha! Oh no! πŸ™‚ Neither of my summer readers have even picked up their summer reading. I am still trying to sell it to him with “Lots of fart jokes!” Before I have to lock him in his room πŸ™‚

  4. Ohhhh All the Bright Places. That’s definitely a book I have very mixed feelings about. I can see why people like it and can appreciate how it might have helped others, but personally I had some HUGE issues with it. Hoping it works out better for you! I’m also interested in Daisy Jones & the Six since like you, I have been seeing it absolutely everywhere.

    1. I was just reading some more of it – I’m going to keep you in mind as I keep going now – thanks for the feedback! Yeah, same! I just saw it everywhere. And I liked it. I wouldn’t say I loved it, but it was good enough. Happy reading to you!

  5. Just put a request in at the library for Daisy Jones… I’ve seen it around too and almost grabbed it a couple times. There are just so many books and not enough time.

  6. I am deep into reading a variety of required reading for middle school. I volunteer and work with a lot of kids this age so I like to keep up with what they have to read. I also find it fascinating how much variety there is from school to school! So, I will add these two to my list. Thank you!

    1. Oh sure! I liked yours too and hope to check them out. Like to know what the kids are reading at this age – and they are fun reads – so win, win!

  7. Daisy Jones & the Six and Orphan Train are both on my list to read. I have been reading on the treadmill and have found stuff I have already read is better at keeping my attention right now (I’m weird that way and I have to read or I won’t walk!) Nothing new on my kindle is grabbing me, but I may need to try these.

    1. Oh, I get ya! I play Candy Crush to get through my runs on my treadmill πŸ™‚ Both books are good – I hope you enjoy them and they help you get through some walks!
