It’s WWW Wednesday! Here’s what I have been reading this past month.
The Three W’s for WWW Wednesday are:
What are you currently reading?
What
did you recently finish reading?
What
do you think you’ll read next?
What are you currently reading?
Currently, I am reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I am moving pretty swiftly through this one and am enjoying the story. I can kind of guess what is going to happen, but will be pleased if I am right or I am wrong. From Goodreads: In Laurie Halse Anderson’s powerful novel, an utterly believable heroine with a bitterly ironic voice delivers a blow to the hypocritical world of high school. She speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while demonstrating the importance of speaking up for oneself.
Also, I am currently listening to Nobody’s Fool by Richard Russo. This book has been on my TBR for a while, and since I enjoyed Straight Man by Russo so much, I decided to give this one a listen. Very entertaining, likeable characters, funny – but not nearly as funny as Straight Man. From Goodreads: Richard Russo’s slyly funny and moving novel follows the unexpected operation of grace in a deadbeat town in upstate New York—and in the life of one of its unluckiest citizens, Sully, who has been doing the wrong thing triumphantly for fifty years.
What did you recently finish reading?
I recently finished reading Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, which I enjoyed. I found some of the book to be a bit wordy, but found the read to be enjoyable. The book was about terrorists taking over a birthday party being held at the Vice President’s house in a South American country. The prisoners are held captive for some time while the terrorists wait for their demands to be met. Over the course of months, they develop relationships. Something’s gotta give and does. Good read!
Before that I read Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly which is about three different women during WWII. A concentration camp prisoner, a concentration camp doctor and a New York socialite all intertwine paths in this story based off the life of a real World War II heroine. Like other concentration camp stories, this one is hard to read at times but good story.
I also listened to Calypso by David Sedaris. I thought Sedaris’s essays were so enjoyable, so funny that at a recent book fair I went searching for his works and thankfully found a couple I am excited to get to.
I finished reading The Witch Elm by Tana Finch as well. This was a suspense novel where at times, I found myself thinking anyone of the characters were capable of doing the very worst. I felt the end fell a little flat. But until then, very good.
I also finished listening to Naked Came the Florida Man by Tim Dorsey. This was the first in a series, I do believe, yet I don’t think I will be reading or listening to anymore. It was okay. I was a little distracted by the voice actor’s voice and found the main characters vengeful acts a little less funny and a little more disturbing.
What do you think you’ll read next?
Not sure! I did get to a book fair recently and loaded up on a lot of $1 books – so we’ll see what topples from my nightstand into my hands, next!
Thank you, Sam for hosting another WWW Wednesday!
The cover of speak is very intriguing. Looking forward to hearing more once you finish. Happy reading 📚
I know! I love the way covers of books relate to the story – this cover speaks volumes. Happy reading!
I have Speak on my TBR. Looking forward to your thoughts about it before I start reading it. 🙂
I’ll keep you posted! So far, so good!
A new Sedaris book? I am so THERE…
It was good! Hope you like it!
Excellent reads here! I’ve had every intention of reading Laurie Hause Anderson, but there’s been something off-putting, probably the intensity.
Thanks Sascha! Yeah, the book is YA but, I agree, pretty intense. I am liking it, but feel for the main character in a big way.
My TBR pile grows and my time for reading shrinks☹ I’ve managed a few short stories by Zora Neale Hurston and blog posts.
I guess my reading ‘addiction’ is in remission/recovery🤷🏼♀️
It’s just riding a wave – happens to me too. You’ll dive back in when the book and time is right!
Seeing Calypso reminds me that it’s been far too long since I read any David Sedaris. I’m happy to hear you’re wanting to check out more of his books too. When You Are Engulfed in Flames was one I particularly liked. Happy reading!

Oh, good! Thanks! I’ll have to check that one out.
Every time you do one of these I so want to read more. Like Angie – reading time is shrinking. Maybe will start doing audio books on the runs again.
If you get a chance I think the audio on Straight Man was the best!
I’ve added that to my list. Earned some free audio books so that will be the first one.
Based on your recommendation, I completed and enjoyed Olive Kitteridge. Lilac Girls has been on my list for a while. I am currently reading “Nine Perfect Strangers” by Liane Moriarty.
Oh good! I am glad you liked it. I love Olive – she is such a hoot! I read Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and thought it was good. I have What Alice Forgot on my night stand and I just can’t seem to get into it. I’d like to know how Nine Perfect Strangers went when your done. Lilac Girls is enjoyable. Hope you like it!
